FDE · Foundations and Delivery Methods

This module uses one chapter to follow Forward Deployed Engineering from a customer's initial request through responsibility for maintenance after launch.

Chapters

  1. Chapter 1: Forward Deployed Engineering: From Business Problems to Reusable Production Systems

Reading for Interview Preparation

Readers in product roles can start with the AI product manager discussion in Chapter 1, Section 1.2.1, "Working with Product and Design": how to verify research, choose requirements, and hand over PRDs and project changes clearly.

Read Sections 1.3–1.7 first and consider what still needs clarification after a customer's one-sentence request. Then examine the public practices in Section 1.10, focusing on how engineers discover problems, involve business experts, and bring delivery lessons back into the product.

Section 1.11 puts these methods into an order-exception assistant, following the interview, first-version mistake, acceptance, limited rollout, and cost estimate. Finally, use the questions in Section 1.12 to explain how you would handle the same situations.

Continue with Chapter 2: FDE Delivery Pitfalls and Lessons for a closer look at requirement changes, PoC findings, project memory, and handoff.
